Living by Faith and Not by Sight

As we continue our series in Habakkuk, we see in chapter two that the prophet waits faithfully on the Lord and His promise. After asking God how He could use the wicked Babylonians to bring judgment upon Judah, we see Habakkuk display faith by patiently waiting in 2:1. After an undisclosed amount of time, the Lord responds. He tells Habakkuk to write down the vision and prophecy so that we might be encouraged to believe it and continue in faith. The Lord shows Habakkuk the contrast between the wicked, and the righteous, who "shall live by his faith" (2:4), which in this context means displaying trust that the Lord will bring to pass the deliverance that He has promised. After this, God reveals the fullness of the deliverance to come and Babylon's destruction by the taunts or woes against them in verses 6-20. Through this chapter, we will consider how we should respond when God seems silent during trials, and how to trust Him to bring about justice and salvation.
