He Treads Upon the Sea
Series: Miracles of Jesus

This Sunday, we begin a sermon series looking at the miracles of Christ from the gospel of Mark. It’s important that we understand that Jesus was not a mere wonder-worker, performing signs to amaze the masses. His miracles were calculated to reveal who he is, the nature of his kingdom, and what he came to accomplish. Mark is clear on his theological driving point right from the opening line: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” This Sunday we will see Jesus coming for his disciples in their distress in the dead of night, walking on the water. He is the very Son of God and the sovereign Lord of creation, who lovingly reveals his glory in the midst of their suffering and faltering faith. Don’t we see ourselves in the disciples? We are called to entrust ourselves to this mighty Lord and King, the prophesied Messiah - Jesus Christ.
