The End of the Beginning
Series: Genesis: The Beginning of a People

In the final sermon of our Genesis series, we will look at Genesis 49:28-50:26 and how the book ends with us expectantly waiting for the promised seed of Abraham to come. The passage begins with Jacob in his final act of life giving instructions concerning his burial, which Joseph and his other sons are faithful to do. After the period of mourning has ended, the brothers fear that with their father gone, Joseph will seek revenge for their sin against him. Joseph is stung by their lack of trust in God but does not retaliate. Instead, he points to God's goodness despite men's evil intentions. The book ends with Joseph's faithful encouragement that God will lead his people out of Egypt into the promised land. We, like the Israelites in Egypt, wait expectantly for our Lord to lead us to a better country.
