The Church and Her Weary Worship

Series: Malachi: God's Messenger

Last week we heard the divine declaration of God, “I have loved you.” The imperative that follows this command is that we must worship God with honor and fear. In our text for this week, Malachi chides the people for not responding to God’s love properly. Rather than honoring him as the great King whose name is to be feared, they profaned their worship by bringing blemished offerings with a disinterested spirit. They said, “What a weariness this is.” And so God takes no pleasure in them and refuses to accept their offerings. This text calls us to consider the sincerity of our worship. Having reflected on God’s gracious electing love, do you regularly respond by ardently honoring him with a fully devoted heart? Do you daily present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship (Rom. 12:1-2)?
