Reveling in the King
Series: Psalms of the Sons of Korah
As we continue our series through the Psalms of the Son of Korah, we find in Psalm 45 that the tone has changed drastically. The Psalmist is now rejoicing. He’s celebrating a certain king from David’s line who is marrying a princess. We’re caught up in all the scents and sounds and scenery of the occasion. It’s a royal wedding! It’s glorious and bursting with joy. In fact, the Psalmist calls it a love song. It describes an actual wedding in Israel, yet the praises for this king are so lavish that it’s hard to imagine it applying to any of Israel’s kings, David included. This Psalm seems to outstrip its immediate context and speaks of things more glorious to come. It’s brimming with prophecy for the long-awaited Messiah—great David’s greater Son, David’s son yet David’s Lord. The glory of his reign and the beauty of his bride are unmatched. Psalm 45 is about King Jesus and his church being united to him.
