Pray Evangelistically for All People
Series: Rethinking the Church
As we’ve seen so far in our series through I Timothy, there were some problems in the church in Ephesus. False teaching had arisen within the church. Paul exposes this, even mentioning two of the teachers by name. He says such men should be silenced. He then gives Timothy instructions on what a healthy church should look like. The church needs sound, gospel teaching that results in gospel-shaped living. He begins with prayer. We should pray for all kinds of people, even the pagan authorities, because God desires to save all sorts of people, Jew and Gentile, from every tongue, tribe, people, and nation. This salvation for all men is accomplished through one mediator - the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all. This was a needed word for the church in Ephesus, and this is God’s word for us, as well.
