Our Only Refuge
Series: Reflections for Easter: Sermons from Psalms
Leading to Easter, we will look at a few psalms to prepare us for this great day when Jesus, by his resurrection, brought forgiveness and a promised new life to all who come to him by faith. Easter was the first fruits of what is to come in fullness. How do we wait in this world before the consummation of all things? We lament over the struggles in this world, we confess our sins as we are part of this world, and we will live in trust that God is working all things for good.
This week, we will look at a psalm of lament, Psalm 142. A lament is a type of psalm that is expressive of grief and sorrow over the troubles of this life, but it is more than venting. A lament cries out to God in complaint of the troubles, calls to God to be rescued from troubles and then celebrates God for his mercy and salvation. Over the following weeks we will look at a psalm of confession (Psalm 32) and then a psalm of trust (62) in preparing our hearts for the celebration of Easter.
