O Glorious Day

Series: Easter Sermons

We will come together this Sunday for the same reason we do every week: because Jesus Christ is alive. This Easter, we will be studying 1 Corinthians 15:12-26. In this passage, Paul corrects false thinking about the resurrection that had crept into the church in Corinth, and he does so by emphasizing the reality of the resurrection of Jesus. If you read closely, you will notice that in verses 12-19 he uses the word "if" seven times. If Jesus has truly been raised from the dead, then so will we, but if Jesus has not been raised, then all that we are doing is vain, worthless, and empty. If Jesus has not been raised, then Paul and every other Christian is just wasting their lives and therefore should be pitied.

Then in verse 20 there is a shift from what could be to what is. Christ has been raised. And because Christ has been raised, we know that we too shall be raised. Death itself has been defeated because of Jesus. As we gather this Sunday, we gather to remember Christ and celebrate the life that he guaranteed for us in his resurrection.
