Marriage by Divine Design

As we have seen, Moses is not simply giving a historical narrative of the creation of the cosmos and humanity but he is speaking to people who are struggling in life, in marriage, in parenting and trying to reconcile the challenges of this life with the goodness of God. The challenges of this life are nowhere better found than in marriage. Is this not our experience? Marriage often is far different than expected. We long for a rich and deep intimacy and yet often end up frustrated and lonely. So Moses goes back to the original design of marriage, not to tease us with what we do not have but to show us God’s good purposes in marriage, a blueprint if you will before sin entered the world. In these verses, we see God’s design for marriage as we consider the first wedding.
