Longing and Laboring for God's People
Series: 1 Thessalonians: A Hope That Endures
Can you not hear Paul’s longing for these dear friends and fellow saints? 2.17-18: But since we were torn away from you, brothers, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face, because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again. Paul expresses his deep love and desire for this newly planted church who had come under swift and severe persecution to remain faithful. In our passage you see right and godly affections for the church. This longing for their spiritual health manifests itself in a willingness to labor for their good and growth in faith. This great apostle and missionary team are willing to face great costs to see that they are established and encouraged in the faith. This is a glorious benefit in being an integral part of a local church where people are longing for your growth and perseverance in the faith, especially in times of trial and struggle.
