Laughing Again
Series: Genesis: The Beginning of a People
Finally, after 25 years, Isaac is born. After all the years of waiting and all the false attempts at producing God's plan, the promise has been fulfilled. Just as God had spoken and promised, all things came to be at God's appointed time. This is the reason Isaac is called the child of promise. He is the first fulfillment of the promise made by God to save us even from the beginning. The coming of this promise necessitates a change in the family dynamic as evidenced in the departure of Ishmael, the son of Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. As we shall see, God actually provides for both sons, but Issac will be the one through whom comes the true promise, the Savior, Jesus. Again we see God using all things toward the end of our good and his glory.
