Deacons in the Church
Series: Rethinking the Church
Paul continues with his instructions to Timothy on the leadership of the church, so that the people of God walk out faithfulness well in a disordered world. Last week, Paul gave the qualifications of the elder/overseer. This week, he addresses another tier of leadership in the local church. "Deacon" was a word used for a waiter at a table or a person who offered some type of service in various settings. While the word can be used in a variety of contexts, here it is clearly an essential position in the church, helping her function with excellence.
