Christian Discipleship: Loving
Series: Discipleship: Do, Love, Think
We are on our second sermon on the nature of discipleship. Last week, Daniel spoke on the outward aspect of being a disciple: the doing of discipleship. Today I will speak on the heart or, more specifically, the role of affections in discipleship and the love for discipleship. Our passage contains a pair of Jesus' parables to teach his disciples about the incredible value of the kingdom of God. His point is that once its value is discovered, discipleship can be embraced with a heart of joy, love, and gratitude even in the face of great costs and conflict. In other words, in discovering the value of the kingdom, discipleship, in spite of the costs, is a joy to pursue.
