Advent: In The Beginning
Series: The Light Has Come
The Apostle John wrote his gospel with a specific purpose which he gives to us in John 20:31 - These things are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. He writes his gospel, a narrative of the life and ministry of Jesus, so that we might come to know Him, believe in Him, and have life in His name, that is, life to the full, with joy and hope. This is the reason Jesus came. We will take the month to consider Jesus' coming or "Advent", which simply means "arrival or coming". The church has long celebrated Advent as a time of preparation for us to consider hHis coming and the implications for our life. I want us to do that this month as we look at the first chapter of John. It has been said that this chapter contains one of the richest quarries for the wonderful truths of Jesus. Let us prayerfully consider these things.
