A Royal Lineage
Series: Genesis: The Beginning of a People
Last week we were reminded of the mysterious providence of God within the life of Joseph, even when he was betrayed by his brothers. This week in Genesis 38 we will follow Joseph’s brother Judah and see how God sovereignly uses everything for His good purposes, even the sin and dysfunction within Judah and his family. We will see Judah’s unwillingness to continue the family lineage with Tamar and in turn how this leads Tamar to seek another way to continue this lineage. In the midst of this family dysfunction we are reminded of how God sovereignly accomplishes His good purposes through the birth of Perez and the future blessing of Jesus Christ’s birth which comes through this lineage. This passage has a greater degree of sexual content and we intend to handle it with discretion as we know it’s still valuable for all to hear.
