Worship Guide for November 7

November 04, 2021

Prepare for Sunday morning worship by using the guide below.

Galatians 4:1-7

I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

Summary: Paul writes to these believers in Galatia who were struggling with spiritual amnesia.  They had forgotten that they were now sons of God through faith in Jesus.  So, Paul reminds the church of its condition before the grace of God, once you were slaves but now you are sons, redeemed, indwelt with the Spirit of God and heirs to all the promises of God.

Review and Apply

What were some of the things of this world (opinions, idolatries, possessions, law, fears, etc) were you enslaved to before 'faith came'?

How does God's sovereign control over history help you in these turbulent times of our world? How does Daniel 2.21 help you in this fight for faith?

Why was it important for Jesus to be born of woman and under law? How does this increase our assurance of being sons and daughters?

How can you better enjoy being adopted as a son or daughter of God?

How does the Spirit of His Son help us experience the presence of God as our Father.  Give personal examples.

Please offer one way your friends can pray that this passage might be more transformative for you.
