Summary: People often look to the promise in Romans 8:28 to have hope and comfort during times of distress and suffering.  However, it is also a verse that is often misapplied.  We will take a closer look at this verse and consider the following: (1) What is promised? (2) What is the qualifier of that promise? and (3) How do we appropriate the promise to elicit a greater trust in God?

Review and Apply

Romans 8:28 makes it to practically every “Top 10 favorite Bible verses in the US” list.  Why do you think that is the case?

Can you think of ways that this verse can be misapplied?

How can the promise in this verse help you in your fight for joy and faith?

Is it always a good idea to use this verse to comfort somebody who is hurting?  What are situational/personal factors we should take into consideration as we provide comfort and hope to those hurting?

Reflect on how you have handled feelings of disappointment with God.  Are there ways that you have responded that need to be repented of?
