Fasting Together | June 2022

June 10, 2022

In 2022, we will be praying and fasting through our membership covenant on four designated Saturdays throughout the year; asking God to help us hunger for his glory and be faithful to fulfill the things we have committed to each other as church members. These are commitments he has called us to live out together according to his Word.

 Fasting Together: June 11, 2022

Our fast begins after dinner on Friday (June 10), skipping breakfast and lunch on Saturday (June 11), then breaking the fast by eating dinner on Saturday. Our encouragement throughout the day is to pray, meditate, and consider these things before the Lord.

Read and Reflect:

Living a God-Centered Life:

" And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Pray that you would hunger and thirst for God even more than your body desires to eat and drink
  • Pray that God would grant you grace and growth as you seek to learn more about Him
  • Pray that your fellow members would be using the gifts God has given them to help sharpen one another in their faith

Bringing up Children in the Nurture and Admonition of the Lord:

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4)

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Pray that those in our body who are parents would be faithful in the work of raising up men and women for the glory of God
  • Pray that all those who work with our children (nursery workers, children’s church teachers, student ministry workers, and others) would find joy in their labor, knowing that it is not in vain
  • Pray that you would take up the calling to disciple the children in your life, praying for them and teaching them the way of righteousness
  • Pray that the children in our body would trust in Christ alone for their salvation

Following the Leadership of the Church:

Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith” (Hebrews 13:7)

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Pray that the leadership of the church (staff, elders, and other ministry leaders) would have a deeply rooted faith and love for Christ
  • Pray that they would lead out of a desire to point others to Christ
  • Pray that God would give us grace for our leaders and that they would minister the gospel with integrity, purity, and discipline
  • Pray that we would tithe with joy knowing that we are supporting the work of our leaders

Seeking Honest and Open Communication with Leadership over Concerns:

"Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ…Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” (Ephesians 4:15, 29-31)

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Pray for humility and gentleness when there are matters of disagreement with the leadership
  • Pray that the leadership would seek humility and gentleness as they work through disagreements within the church
  • Pray that the body would seek humility and gentleness as they approach the leadership with disagreements
  • Pray that all of us would be growing in our love and knowledge of God and that as our faith increases we would be able to put away bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, and malice
