Worship Guide for September 17

September 15, 2023

Prepare for Sunday morning worship by using the guide below.

Romans 6:1-5

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Summary: Most people love celebrations, whether Christmas, a birthday, or an anniversary. Today is a celebration where we will listen to and watch four people be baptized. To help us understand this unique celebration, we will step out of 2 Timothy for one week to look at Romans 6 at the meaning and joy of baptism. Up to this point, Paul has proven that though we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, God has given to us His Son Jesus as a sacrifice to bear our sins, suffer our punishment, die on a cross, and be raised to life, so that by faith in him we are reconciled with God and adopted as His sons and daughters. This passage from death to life is pictured in baptism.
