Worship Guide for July 28

July 25, 2024

Prepare for Sunday morning worship by using the guide below.

2 Corinthians 4:1-6

Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Summary: We are continuing on in our series through the book of 2 Corinthians. This week we will see the apostle Paul continue to defend his faithful work of ministry to the church of Corinth as he tells the church what faithful ministry is and what it isn't. Paul tells the church that faithful ministry rests on the mercy of God, it is often marked by rejection, and that it always proclaims Christ who is the glory of God.

Review & Apply

Where else in chapters 1-3 do we see the mercy of God on display in Paul’s life?

After reading 4:1-2, what can we learn about the false teachers’ motives for ministry in the church of Corinth?

What does verse 2 mean when it says to “commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God?”

Paul refers to the Gospel he preaches as “our Gospel” in verse 3. What's unique about him doing this?

How is Jesus described in this passage? How might this change the way we look at life?

Have there been moments in your life where you have let the fear of being rejected keep you from sharing the Gospel? How does Paul encourage us in this passage?

How would you describe verses 3-4, do they remind you of any other passages in Paul’s epistles?

How do verses 4-6 inform our evangelistic efforts as Christians? How do they challenge and encourage us?
