Hebrews 12:1-3
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Summary: Once a year, we hear a biographical sermon on a Christian from the past. The Book of Proverbs teaches us that there is great value in an abundance of counselors (e.g. Prov. 11:14), and church history is one of those counselors, as it is full of stories of Christian brothers and sisters whose lives were marked by grace. Through looking at their lives, we can worship God as we see his grace extending throughout the ages to needy sinners like us. This year's biographical sermon is on the life of Sarah Edwards, as seen through her marriage to the 18th century pastor Jonathan Edwards.
