Worship Guide for December 27

December 24, 2020

Prepare for Sunday morning worship by using the guide below.

Psalm 67:1-7

May God be gracious to us and bless us
    and make his face to shine upon us,
that your way may be known on earth,
    your saving power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
    let all the peoples praise you!

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
    for you judge the peoples with equity
    and guide the nations upon earth.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
    let all the peoples praise you!

The earth has yielded its increase;
    God, our God, shall bless us.
God shall bless us;
    let all the ends of the earth fear him!

Summary: This Sunday we will observe Psalm 67 and consider how God has saved us, for our good and his glory, and for the purpose of saving others. . In Genesis 12:1–3, God first revealed his plan to Abraham that he would bless his people so that they would be a blessing to all peoples in every nation. Psalm 67 is a prayer from God's people that is rooted in this covenant promise. In God's kindness, he extends his blessing to us now and he invites us to participate with him in this mission to all nations. God is worthy of the praise from all peoples and it is our blessing to know him, praise him, enjoy him, fear him, and share his glorious gospel with all people.

Review and Apply

Read Psalm 67, Gen. 12:1–3, and Gal. 3.  How do each of these verses reveal God's plan for the nations? And what purpose do God's people fulfill in his mission to the nations?

Have you ever asked for God to bless you so that the nations (e.g. your neighbors, family members, co-workers, people far off... etc.) would know his salvation?

Do you believe that God is worthy of the praise of the nations? How does your life display his worthiness? How can you grow?  How can another brother or sister help you in this growth? What areas would you like to grow in?

How does this prayer encourage your delight and gratitude in your salvation? How does it challenge you to deepen your delight in God?

Who are you praying for to come to know Christ?  What has to change for you to begin praying in line with Psalm 67?
