Fasting Together | March 2023

March 10, 2023

As Christians we want to walk circumspectly. This means we live in a thoughtful, intentional, prudent manner. We do this knowing that individually, and especially corporately, we are lights of Christ to the world. We are set apart from the world in our conduct and joy. This is not to highlight our righteousness, but to showcase Christ’s by the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit.

 Fasting Together: March 11, 2023

Our fast begins after dinner on Friday (March 10), skipping breakfast and lunch on Saturday (March 11), then breaking the fast by eating dinner on Saturday. Consider reading and deeply thinking upon the following texts during each meal time.  If you’re not giving up food, we still encourage you to meditate on the passages!

BREAKFAST TIME: PHILIPPIANS 2:14-16

14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

Reflection Questions:

What have you been grumbling about recently?

How can a content spirit showcase the gospel? How can a complaining spirit dim the light of Christ in you? In your church?

LUNCH TIME: EPHESIANS 5:15-17

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Reflection Questions:

How can you walk more wisely this week?

What are 1-2 things you can change about your schedule that will help you honor the Lord in your walk?

DINNER TIME: ROMANS 12:17-21

17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it[i] to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Reflection Questions:

Why is vengeance sinful?

How can heaping burning coals on someone’s head be honorable to the Lord?
